D'Accord Guitar Chord Dictionary 3.0 was designed to improve the userīs learning experience. It has been developed specially to help users to learn how to play the chords on the guitar and to study the scales.

  • Guitar Fretboard

    The Guitar Fretboard appears at the middle of the software screen. The buttons indicates the left hand fingers (the fingers that play the chords). The DīAccord Dictionary allows the positions of the chords (since the not pressed string) until the 12Š fret.

    Each note of the chord is shown as a blue button. The tonic of each chord placed on the Fretboard is shown in red. This color standard can be seen on the picture below.

    The not pressed strings (without fingers pressing), used in some chords, they are shown by buttons before the first fret on the Fretboard, how can be seen on the picture below.


    This picture shows an "Am" chord.

    The D'Accord Dictionary can show the Guitar Fretboard in four different views. To switch, take a look on the section "Settings". You can also use other instruments (4, 5 or 6 strings) or customized tunings.

    The software uses the fingering schema below to show the chords and scales. Each number/letter represents one finger.



    Main Features

    The D'Accord Guitar Chord Dictionary 3.0 works in two modes: Chords and Scales. To switch the mode, you should click on the icons Chords or Scales on the bottom part of the screen.

    Chords Mode

    Chords Mode is used to learn how to play chords. You can see the chords interface on the screen below:

    This mode enables you to:
  • View Chords by name
  • See differents positions for the same chord
  • Print Chords diagrams
  • Find out chord names

    View Chords

    The software has a comprehensive chords database and the chord generator, so that you can find and learn the chords that you need. There are two ways to find a chord:

    1. Type the chord name on the box "chord name" and press "enter" key on your keyboard.


    Obs: The Chord mote must be typed on capital letters (C, D , E, F, G, A, B) and the complements in normal letters (Am, Cdim).

    2. Choose a chord from the Chord Name list.


    To see alternatives positions for the chord , use the arrows: right and left (next chord and previous chord, respectively).


    Print List

    In case that you want to print a set of chords, to study later or to have it always by hand, you will be able to use the printing option.

    So choose each chord that you want to print and press the button add (on the print list box). Doing this you will make a list of chords that will be printed. In case you want to remove any chord from the list, choose the chord to be removed and than press the button remove.

    You can also replace chords on the list. Click on the chord name in the Print List, then select the new chord (from the menu or typing it's name) and then click on Replace.

    When your list is completed, press "Print" and will be printed a box with the chords chosen.

    Virtual Fretboard

    Virtual Fretboard enables you to find out the name of a chord that you don't know. Just click (left button) on the fretboard where you want the fingers to be pressed. If you make any playable chord, the software will show the most used name on the Chord Name.


    Every time you click on the fretboard, the chord name will be brought up to date

    In case you want to change the chord tone (red indicator) click on the note that will be tuned with the mouse right button and pick the option "Choose as tone".



    In case you want to delete some notes, click on the note that will be removed with the mouse right button and pick the option Erase.



    Scales Mode

    You can use the Scales mode to learn how to play many different scales.


    To begin, select the Scale on the dropdown

    Then select the Tone

    To play the scale, click on "Play". You can also use the arrows to view other positions to play the same scale.




    Lyric Tools

    The D'Accord Guitar Dictionary has a screen especially to the lyrics with chords that you find in books, magazines and on the Internet. By using this resource, you can:

  • See the chords in differents positions;
  • Print the chords and the lyrics;
  • Transpose the chords to any tone you want!

    To have access to the Chords screen of the D'Accord Dictionary, click on the icon "Chords" on the top left side of the screen.


    Find Chords

    If you want to get the chords from the lyric to the dictionary, click on the "Import Chords" button. The software will recognize, inside of the text, which are chords and will add them to the "Print List". Even if the list is not visible, the chords will be added.



    Printing the chords

    You can print the lyric with the chords with the chord diagrams below.


    Transposing chords

    Chord transposition is a very useful tool for those who play the guitar. You can choose the best tone to sing or to play and to transpose the chords for it.
    Instruction: Paste the lyric with the chords in the text box and transpose using the buttons on the right bottom part of the screen. All the chords identified in the lyric will be changed to the automatically transposed chords.


    When you push one of these buttons to transpose the chords, the chords will be transposed.



    General Tools

    These resources listed in this section can be used in both mode of operation of the D'Accord Guitar Dictionary.

    They are:
  • To choose between view the fingers, notes or intervals;
  • To listen to the chord sound;
  • To change the position on the guitarīs fretboard;
  • To change the MIDI driver;
  • To change the guitarīs sound.

    View fingers, notes and intervals

    To make it easier to you, the D'Accord Dictionary not only makes possible to see the chords positions. It also shows the left-hand fingers to be used, the intervals, the chords and the notes.

    To switch between fingers, notes and intervals, You only have to choose the element desired in the list "visualize", located in the bottom central part of the screen, in the section "Options".

    The representation of the fingers of the chord obeys the following rules:

    1. The numbers in notes indicates the fingers to be placed in each position.
    2. The buttons without a number must be played with the not pressed string .
    3. Strings without a button are the ones that should not be played.

    The numeration of the buttons follows the following notation:

    1 - index
    2 - middle
    3 - ring
    4 - pinky
    Buttom without indication - play the string but not pressing by any finger (not pressed string).

    Comment: When finger 1 is shown in more than a position, this means that an bar chord must be located. An bar chord is when index finger pressures more than one string. In the picture below, for example, the index finger must be located on the hatched region:



    View the notes

    The representation of the chord notes obeys the following rules

    1. The noteīs are shown in the buttons of the chordīs position.
    2. The noteīs of D'Accord nomenclature.
    3. The harmony (C# e Db) is named by the chordīs name.

    The exhibition of notes makes possible the study of the scale of each chord.
    knowing the scale of each chord is one of the important steps on the improviment of musical learning.


    View the intervals

    The representation of the intervals of the chord obeys the following rules:

    1. The interval's name appears in the buttons of the position of the chord.
    2. The intervals are named as the tone of the chord.
    3. You can see here how the intervals are described at the D'Accord Dictionary.

    When you draw the chords, it is important to know the intervals of each note for the tone on the guitarīs fretboard.


    Listening the chord sound

    To listen to the chosen chord, click on "Play" or put the mouse on the guitarīs string.



    Settings

    Clicking on the "Settings" option, on the top left side of the main screen, You see the option to configure the D'Accord Dictionary to your way.

    You will be able to configure the drivers, instruments and also the fretboard mode.

    Settings - Drivers

    In the Drivers folder you configure the MIDI to be used to have access to your sound card.





    Settings - Instruments

    In the folder Instruments you can define your instrument. You can choose between any instrument on the list or you can create/edit an instrument.


    To create a new instrument, click on "New" or select one from the list and click "Edit". Then you will be able to define the Name, number of strings and the tuning for each string.



    Settings - View the fretboard

    In the folder "Fretboard Mode" you have an option to modify the way of visualization of the guitarīs fretboard, you only have to choose one of the options below.

    Each position has a specific configuration.

    Standard: This position is equivalent to a view of a dexterous that looks it from above the guitar, while plays. The head of the guitar is on the left, the bass strings are below and the treble strings are above.

    Standard/Switched strings: Seen up front, a left-handed person to play. The head of the guitar is on the left, and the bass strings above, the treble strings are below.

    Front view: Vision of who observes, of front, a dexterous to play. The head of the guitar is on the right, the bass strings are above and the trebles are below.

    Front view/Switched strings: This vision is equivalent to a vision of a left-handed person who looks at the guitar from above, while plays. The head of the guitar is on the right, the bass strings are below and the treble strings are above.
